OpenAI usage tiers: Build, Launch and Grow

Announced 2026-10-06 · verified 2026-10-07

OpenAI replaced five paid usage tiers with three. Organizations upgrade automatically when cumulative credit purchases meet these thresholds. These are lifetime purchase thresholds, not monthly subscription fees.

Paid tierTotal credit purchasesMonthly usage limit
Build$5$500
Launch$100$5,000
Grow$500$200,000

Grow lowers the highest-tier qualification from $1,000 to $500. Paid organizations migrate automatically. The change expands calling capacity; it does not reduce model token prices.

RPM = requests per minute; TPM = tokens per minute. These are the guide's Standard model limits, separate from Ultrafast limits and endpoint-specific constraints. Check your organization's Limits settings for applicable limits. Usage limits are also separate from configured spend alerts and hard spend caps.

GPT-6 Luna via /v1/decisions costs $0.10 per million input tokens, with no output or cache charges. Long-context and regional processing adjustments still apply. OpenAI reports up to 10× faster decisions than Luna through Responses.

How OpenAI API pricing works

OpenAI bills per token: an input price for everything you send and a higher output price for what the model generates, both quoted per million tokens. To estimate a real bill, multiply by your monthly request volume — the cost calculator does this across every model at once.

Before committing to volume, always confirm the current numbers on the official OpenAI pricing page — the list prices here are verified periodically but the market moves fast.
